Senior Partner Asa Hutchinson participated in a panel discussion at the National Press Club put on by The Constitution Project and Human Rights Watch. The panel, entitled “Excessive Detention, Detainee Transfers, and Inadequate Access to Counsel Create Barriers to Justice,” is based on reports from both organizations about immigration policies that impose detention too frequently, impede access to counsel and create a confusing and inefficient immigration system.
Joining Mr. Hutchinson on the panel was Hon. Bruce Einhorn, director of Asylum Clinic, Professor of Law at Pepperdine University and former federal immigration judge; Alison Parker, deputy director of US Program, Human Rights Watch; and Megan Mack (moderator), director of the American Bar Association Commission on Immigration.
The panel took place on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, in Washington, D.C.
